Automatic combing to analyze abrasion resistance and hair strength is an essential tool for Hair Care R&D laboratories.
The SIRTAKI combing machine provides an adjustable combing rate – from 1 to 2.3 Hz with a steady, even torque – for up to 6 swatches at a time. It can be left to run for hours. A back-lit tray under the combing mechanism can be slid open to identify and analyze the collected broken hair fibers.
The instrument is operated using a simple interface on the controller on the side of the system. The user can start or stop the combing rotation, and adjust the combing rotation speed from 15 to 35 rpm (combing frequency from 1 Hz to 2.3 Hz). An emergency STOP button is present (in red) to stop the combing in case of a hair swatch being stuck or tangled. A RPM indicator displays the speed of the combing rotation.
Each slot is fitted with up to 4 evenly spaced and easily replaced combs. The swatch mounts are attached to a height-adjustable bar for maximum adaptability. Hair swatches can be easily removed and attached with the thumb screws mechanisms.
The SIRTAKI can come with an automatic option – instead of manual – in which case, the detection and counting of broken fibers is done automatically through an imaging system that periodically inspect the trays.
A software developed by BOSSA NOVA Vision will then control the tray system as well as the camera inspecting them for broken fibers. The user has the possibility to decide the frequency at which he wants the trays to be inspected so that a time evolution of the breakage rate of each individual hair swatch can be measured.
